SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today, SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of making life multiplanetary and expanding consciousness to the stars.

SpaceXSI is building Super Intelligence to help humanity understand the universe. Our teams are building the full Super Intelligence stack: from our Colossus supercomputers, to Grok models, to our suite of applications, including Grok Bot, Grok Build, Grok Imagine, Grok Voice, and X. We're creating a powerful flywheel where more compute trains better models, better models power more useful products, and what we learn from people using those products shapes what we build next.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

SpaceXSI’s Safety team protects free expression while ensuring our users can safely and successfully engage with our platform through robust policy enforcement. Child Safety is our highest-stakes area: the team identifies, investigates, and removes child sexual exploitation (CSE) and child sexual abuse material (CSAM) across X and Grok products, including AI-generated content, and makes the legally required reports to NCMEC. As we increasingly leverage AI-based automation, we innovate and experiment at a fast pace, striving to be a learning organization with a growth mindset.

As Supervisor, Child Safety, you will lead the Austin-based Child Safety analyst team across shifts. You will be hands-on with escalations, own the quality and defensibility of every high-risk decision, and coordinate with Safety leadership, Legal, and law enforcement response teams on high-profile cases. You will lead the team’s shift from scaled manual review to analysts focused on “Automation First” appeals, model evaluations and audits, investigations, and escalations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Lead the Austin based Child Safety team, a team of analysts (including senior analysts) covering X and Grok, with consistent standards across morning and night shifts and strict adherence to SLAs.

Act as the escalation layer for Child Safety: be hands-on with complex, urgent, and high-profile cases, including high profile accounts, internal escalations from law enforcement response and legal teams, and SpacexSI products incident escalations.

Own NCMEC reporting decisions for the team. Ensure every report, suspension, and bounce is accurate, well-documented, and meets legal obligations, and that the team knows when to escalate to Legal.

Bring thoughtful, well-reasoned recommendations to leadership on escalations, balancing the protection of minors with SpaceXSI’s free speech principles (e.g., distinguishing CSE from adult content, humor and satire, or newsworthy reporting).

Coordinate with Safety leadership, Legal, Engineering, and Policy on high-profile cases and action items with Head of Safety visibility. Communicate business needs clearly, close the loop on every action item, and do the due diligence before decisions go up.

Run the team’s response to viral incidents and emerging abuse trends (e.g., leaked content of minors, AI-altered imagery, election-period trends): organize sweeps, track results, and escalate patterns quickly.

Take an automation-first approach. Partner with Program Leads to calibrate classifiers and Grok enforcement, track false positives and repeated suspension/unsuspension patterns, and turn findings into concrete improvements.

Lead the team’s operational model evaluations, audits, and labeling work for CSE, ensuring high-quality curated data that improves Grok’s ability to detect and act on child safety violations.

Use querying languages (e.g., SQL or Python) and LLM-powered agents to analyze operational data, identify trends, and drive data-informed improvements to policies and processes. Build that habit across the team.

Own your dashboards and KPIs: know hour to hour how the backlog and escalation queues are doing, and keep a baseline to spot and investigate anomalies.

Keep shift handovers, process documentation, and knowledge checks current so every analyst works from the same playbook.

Provide coaching, mentorship, and professional development to foster critical thinking, efficiency, growth, retention, and wellbeing in a team regularly exposed to highly sensitive content.

Run strong feedback loops as a proactive manager: give constructive feedback early and often, out of a desire to improve, and take it in stride.

Build the team into child safety subject matter experts with a defensibility mindset, so every decision can be explained and defended.

Own team performance end to end: set clear expectations, measure them, reward strong performers, and act quickly and fairly on underperformance.

Partner with internal stakeholders (e.g., HR, workforce management, Legal, Policy, other Safety teams) to align on Child Safety objectives and coverage.

All other duties and responsibilities as required by business need.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

5+ years of experience in online child safety, Trust & Safety operations, criminal investigations, or a closely related field, including 2+ years leading or supervising a team.

Proven expertise in identifying, investigating, and preventing CSAM and CSE, including grooming behaviors and risks in AI-generated content, with strong knowledge of legal obligations (such as NCMEC reporting) and industry standards for protecting minors.

Skilled in crisis and escalation management, with the ability to make sound, defensible decisions under pressure and navigate ambiguity in time-sensitive, high-impact situations.

Able to apply SpaceXSI safety policies with judgment, weighing the protection of minors against free expression in the global public square.

Proficient in data analysis with hands-on experience using LLMs, SQL, or Python to extract insights, identify emerging abuse vectors, and optimize operational performance.

Passionate about AI and automation, with an interest in leveraging technology to improve Child Safety enforcement and reduce manual workloads.

A strong communicator who can articulate business needs, write clear escalation summaries, and build relationships with Legal, Policy, Engineering, and leadership.

An active X - including Grok - user with a deep understanding of the platform’s role as a global public square and its Safety challenges.

A lifelong learner who reflects on their gaps, strives to fill them, and is curious about how to improve.

A team player who places the interests of the team first and balances mission accomplishment with compassion for their people.

Able to work onsite in Austin, TX, support coverage across shifts as needed, and travel occasionally to collaborate with global teams. This is a fully onsite role.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

Experience managing Child Safety or Trust & Safety teams at a social media or generative AI company, leveraging AI or other automation tools.

Experience collaborating with child safety organizations (such as NCMEC) and law enforcement, and using specialized detection tools or developing classifiers for CSAM/CSE.

Expertise in leading red-teaming and adversarial testing of Large Language Models to proactively identify novel abuse vectors, jailbreaks, and safety failure modes, with a proven ability to translate findings into concrete improvements for enforcement systems, team processes, and platform robustness.

Experience providing human oversight and insights for scaled agentic AI operations, with abilities in prompting and evaluating LLM agents.

Please note: this role will be on-site at our Austin, TX office, requiring coverage from either Tuesday to Saturday or Sunday to Thursday shifts. This role may involve exposure to sensitive or graphic content, including vulgar language, violent threats, pornography, and other graphic images.

SpaceXSI is an equal opportunity employer.
