As a Senior Software Engineer at Oportun, you will be a key technical contributor responsible for designing, building, and maintaining scalable, reliable platform services and shared libraries. You will work closely with Staff Engineers, product teams, and other senior engineers to evolve the engineering platform and improve developer productivity, system reliability, and delivery velocity. We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help design, build, and maintain our platform and associated services. This role will have a meaningful impact on Oportun’s evolving platform and engineering ecosystem. You will contribute to architectural decisions, lead complex features end-to-end, and help raise the technical bar across your immediate teams. The ideal candidate is a strong hands-on engineer with experience building and operating distributed systems, who enjoys solving complex technical problems and mentoring other engineers while remaining deeply involved in day-to-day development. You’re comfortable navigating complexity and don’t wait for perfect information to move forward. <h2 style="text-align: justify;">What You Bring</h2> Skills & experience  Required  <ul> <li style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">7+ years of related software engineering experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.</li> <li style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">Strong software development experience with a focus on backend systems and services.</li> <li style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">Proficiency in Java, C#, C++, or a similar backend programming language.</li> <li style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">Strong understanding of software design principles, data structures, and algorithms.</li> <li style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">Experience designing, building, and operating scalable, reliable, and secure distributed systems.</li> <li style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">3+ years of experience designing, building, deploying, and maintaining container-based applications.</li> <li style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">4+ years of experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.</li> <li style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">Strong problem-solving skills and experience debugging complex technical issues.</li> <li style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">Experience with Continuous Delivery practices and automated deployment pipelines.</li> <li style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">Working knowledge of secure development practices and security considerations in distributed systems.</li> <li style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">Strong communication and collaboration skills, including experience working across technical and cross-functional teams.</li> <li style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">Experience mentoring engineers and contributing to team-level technical leadership.</li> </ul> Nice to Have <ul> <li style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;">Experience in financial services, fintech, banking, or another highly regulated industry.</li> <li style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;">Experience building internal developer platforms, shared engineering services, or developer productivity tools.</li> <li style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;">Experience improving observability, reliability, or operational practices across distributed systems.</li> <li style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;">Experience using AI-assisted development tools to improve engineering productivity, code quality, or technical workflows.</li> </ul> <h2>Our AI Mindset</h2> <h3>We build with AI.
