Ever been the person everyone Slacks who either has the answer, or knows how to track it down? That’s this job. As a Senior Security Solutions Engineer, you’re the technical brain trust behind Expel’s Customer Success team — the “the buck stops here” expert who makes sure our CSMs, TAMs, and support engineers always have a fast, accurate answer to bring to customers.

When a customer question gets thorny, it lands with you. You untangle it, you document it so it’s answered even faster next time, and you keep the rest of Expel focused on the work only they can do. If you love being deep in security tech and equally love making other people better at their jobs, keep reading.

What Expel can do for you

Give you broad exposure to the technology, architecture, integrations, and security operations behind an MDR platform

Put you close to customers and the technical problems security teams are solving every day

Give you the opportunity to become a trusted technical resource across Customer Success, Security, Detection & Response, and Engineering

Let you solve complex technical problems while also building documentation and processes that make the entire organization more effective

Surround you with curious security practitioners who genuinely enjoy sharing what they know

Give you room to mentor others, sharpen your own technical depth, and continuously improve how we support our customers

What you can do for Expel

Be the go-to escalation point for CS — responding quickly and accurately to ad-hoc technical questions from CSMs, TAMs, and TSEs so no one’s left waiting.

Hop on customer calls when the moment calls for deep technical expertise, backing up the CSM or TAM who owns the relationship.

Hunt down knowledge gaps and turn them into great documentation — authoring, reviewing, and continuously sharpening technical and process content.

Partner with teams across Security, Detection & Response, and Engineering to pull knowledge into the team and operationalize it.

Curate internal and external knowledge repositories and point people to self-service answers when that’s the faster path.

Enable other teams — especially CSM, TAM, and Technical Support — so the flood of inbound questions gets smaller over time.

Coach and mentor less experienced teammates, and keep clean records of inquiry volume so the team can prioritize what matters.

What you should bring with you

You’ve spent 7+ years in security, at least half of it in a technical, customer-facing role — ideally consultative. You’ve got real depth across three or more security product spaces (EDR, NDR, SIEM, cloud, you name it) and you can reason about the tradeoffs teams make in security operations. Just as important: you’re a genuinely good communicator who can shift from talking shop with a practitioner to briefing a customer’s senior leadership without missing a beat.

You’ll thrive here if you bring:

Sharp root-cause analysis and troubleshooting — you diagnose complex technical issues completely and accurately.

A firm grasp of the cybersecurity market: the products, the providers, and their real strengths and weaknesses.

Fluency in security controls across Windows, Unix/Linux, AWS, GSuite, O365, and network gear.

A solid handle on attack vectors, threat tactics, attacker techniques (think ATT&CK), and the attack lifecycle.

Strong consultative instincts — active listening, conflict management, negotiation, and knowing when (and how gracefully) to escalate.

An intrinsic drive to self-assess and keep getting better.

A bachelor’s degree and/or relevant certifications are a plus, but we care more about what you can do than where you learned it.

Additional notes

The base salary range for this role is between $122,400 USD and $177,500 USD + variable eligibility and equity. While the full salary band reflects our long-term compensation framework, we're primarily targeting candidates between $145,000 and $165,000 based on experience, skills, and market data.

You’ll also be eligible for unlimited PTO (which we model and encourage), work location flexibility, up to 24 weeks of parental leave, and really excellent health benefits.

We’re only hiring those authorized to work in the United States. We do not currently sponsor immigration visas.

We're an Equal Opportunity Employer: You'll receive consideration for employment without regard to race, sex, color, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, protected veteran status, or on the basis of disability.

We’ll ensure that individuals with disabilities are provided reasonable accommodation to participate in the job application or interview process, to perform essential job functions, and to receive other benefits and privileges of employment. Please let us know if you need accommodation of any kind.

#LI-Remote

Salary Range

$122,400—$177,500 USD
