You'll turn long-range strategy into financial choices and build pricing, deal, and commercial frameworks that help Sales move faster with better economics.</p> <p>You'll join an intentionally small, senior team within Strategic Finance & BizOps. You'll work with significant autonomy, bring together the functions needed to solve each problem, and transfer ongoing ownership once a capable business-partner team is in place. </p> <h2>What you'll do</h2> <ul> <li value="1">Translate GitLab's long-range strategy into financial scenarios, capacity plans, and investment choices that inform the annual operating plan.</li> <li value="2">Own company-wide initiatives, such as sales and engineering capacity, hosting costs, or product pricing, from problem definition through decision, execution, and handoff to the long-term owner.</li> <li value="3">Build and evolve pricing, packaging, and discounting frameworks using unit economics and market context. Give Sales practical tools, including recommended deal structures, minimum acceptable economics, and clear escalation paths.</li> <li value="4">Partner with Deal Desk to model non-standard and enterprise deals. Advise on financial terms and trade-offs for large, multi-year, usage-based, and partner-led agreements.</li> <li value="5">Design dashboards, budget unlocks, and investment gates that replace one-off approvals with clear guardrails operators can act on independently.</li> <li value="6">Work across Finance, Sales, Product, Engineering, and Data to solve problems that span functions or don't yet have a natural long-term owner.</li> <li value="7">Build the analytical and modeling capability needed for executive decisions. Move beyond requested analysis to proactive, prioritized recommendations, and turn complex models into clear recommendations for the chief executive officer, chief financial officer, and senior leadership.</li> <li value="8">Use artificial intelligence and automation to reduce manual data preparation and expand the team's capacity for insight and execution.</li> </ul> <h2>What you'll bring</h2> <ul> <li value="1">10+ years of experience as an investor, banker, consultant, strategic finance leader, chief of staff, or operator in a complex technology or software business. You've owned ambiguous, cross-functional problems such as pricing, deal desk, capacity planning, or strategic planning.</li> <li value="2">The ability to build complex, flexible financial models from scratch, including capacity plans, unit economics, pricing scenarios, and deal economics, and translate the detail into executive-level recommendations.</li> <li value="3">Strategic financial judgment that connects operational choices to growth, gross margin, cash flow, profitability, return on invested capital, and opportunity cost rather than relying on simplistic productivity ratios.</li> <li value="4">A track record of influencing Product, go-to-market, or executive decisions through quantitative analysis, not just reporting on outcomes.</li> <li value="5">Experience shaping pricing, packaging, or deal-structure decisions using unit economics. Experience with consumption-based or hybrid pricing is particularly helpful.</li> <li value="6">Comfort working in a changing environment where data and processes are incomplete. You can build frameworks rather than only administer an established recurring process.</li> <li value="7">The ability to represent the team credibly in senior forums, hold a point of view, and challenge weak assumptions constructively.</li> <li value="8">Practical, hands-on use of artificial intelligence to automate workflows, prototype tools, and scale your output, along with expertise in Google Sheets and the ability to use GitLab. GitLab uses Google Sheets rather than Excel for modeling.</li> </ul> <h2>About the team</h2> <p>Strategic Finance is GitLab's cross-functional problem-solving and incubation team. The team takes on the chief financial officer's and chief executive officer's hardest, most ambiguous problems when no natural owner yet has the capability to solve them. We build the financial and operating frameworks, bring together the relevant functions, and then transfer ongoing ownership to the right business-partner team. Our current portfolio spans company-wide resource allocation and long-range planning, sales and engineering capacity, product pricing, discounting and deal structure, and hosting cost strategy.</p><div class="content-pay-transparency"><div class="pay-input"><div class="description"><p><em>The base salary range for this role’s listed level is currently for residents of the United States only.
